Flipping Jigs
How to Catch Bass on Flipping Jigs
There are many jigs on the market today and it can be confusing for a new bass fisherman on what type, size and characteristic you should use.
Flipping jigs have a streamlined head so they can more easily slip through thick cover. They also have thicker weed guards than casting jigs. While sometimes jigs as light as 3/8 of an ounce are used for flipping, more times than not a heavier jig will be used.
Flipping jigs come in weights as high as 1 1/2 ounces. Sometimes very heavy jigs are required to fall through thick brush or weeds.
As the years have gone by more and more bass fisherman have switched over to a Texas rigged beaver style bait with a pinned heavy tungsten slip weight for flipping as opposed to a jig. There are some applications where the old flipping jig is still king.
