Wake baits have a very specific purpose. They provide an excellent presentation when weed growth is close to the surface, yet not on the surface. They also give you a way to fish for bass which are in very shallow water.

Wake baits are usually made from plastic and are designed to float. Most have rattle inside but some are quiet runners. The swim bills are set almost vertically down so that the bait does not dive more than a few inches.

Wake baits are designed to run just below or at the surface. They are an excellent way to cover water when you have submergent weeds that run up to a foot or so below the surface.
